Season 2015

Season 2015 saw Austral Phoenix field 11 teams across both Junior and Senior competitions. A strong senior program was created at the start of the year with League, Reserve and Divisional teams for both men and women. The club also had State League Junior boys and girls to set the benchmark for the Junior Program.

Austral League women made it to the grand final of Warrnambool in March which provided them the confidence they needed for another State League Season which saw them make another grand final however falling short and coming 2nd for a second year in a row against a very strong Mt Lofty Side. The League men finally made it into the Final series for the first time in many years but feel short in week one. The Reserve men battled hard throughout the season coming 4th on the ladder and making through to the second week of finals and a strong congratulations to the Divisional 1 men on making the grand final but losing in 4 sets. Also well done to the Reserve women and Division 1 women who worked hard all year with constant team changes but unfortunately just missed out on finals.

Our Junior program was once again a force to be reckon with. All teams were lucky enough to have coaches this year which created an exceptionally good vibe across the court in all teams. We had numerous state beach and indoor representatives and a National representative too in Greg. The Juniors didn’t stop after Winter League but they went straight into the Summer League where we hope to see all teams make finals.

Overall the 2015 Volleyball season was another positive and rewarding year for the Austral Phoenix Volleyball Club. 8 senior players played in the Australian Volleyball League and we had Beth Carey represent Australia. Great friendships were made and created…
